Do-It-Yourself Version Control of Flare Projects using Apache Subversion

A session at MadWorld 2014 Worldwide Learning Conference

Tuesday 15th April, 2014

10:55am to 11:50am (PST)

In this session, presenter Nita Beck will introduce the principles and workflows of source control, and explain why it is vital, even for solo authors. Specifically, Nita will cover Apache Subversion (SVN) terminology and concepts, including:

Subversion repository and working copies
Trunks, tags, and branches
Check-ins and check-outs
Log messages and history
Differences and conflicts
You'll learn what you need to set up a SVN repository (or where to subscribe to cloud-based SVN servers) and then how to:

Bind a Flare project to SVN
Check files in and out
Manage renames and moves
Handle conflicts when multiple authors have edited the same files
View the history of changes
Import a Flare project from SVN
We'll briefly look at those SVN actions that can't be done directly within Flare, but can easily be done with another SVN client, TortoiseSVN. The session will wrap up with practical Do's and Don'ts for SVN-bound Flare projects.
