What’s required to be a competitive php developer these days.

A session at PHP Craft Cape Town

Saturday 4th October, 2014

2:15pm to 3:00pm (SAST)

So what is the baseline of knowledge and skills required to be a competitive developer in 2014 with a primary focus on SME and contracting. In the "old days" one could focus solely on backend PHP development and not have to know too much about tool chaining, frontend and backend development and survive quite happily on (s)FTP and echo/console.log with a smattering of version control if absolutely required. With the speed requirements of modern day development and the need to deploy stable code to a plethora of platforms one must have at least a basic understanding of front and backend frameworks, tools chaining, transpiling, PaaS, SaaS, etc. We will discuss how it’s possible as a single developer to tame this beast and keep abreast of what new and feasible for your projects.
