A session at phpDay 2014

Friday 16th May, 2014

2:30pm to 3:30pm (CET)

At Etsy, we realized that if we wanted to approach Ilya Grigorik’s challenge of 1000ms time to glass, we would have to stop doing only one thing at a time, and make our servers start working in parallel. This talk will show how we built concurrent processing into our PHP API stack that powers Etsy’s own iOS and Android apps, third party applications and even our web ajax calls.

The talk will also cover how we plan to use the new concurrent API to improve the performance of server side web rendering for international users and how we make sense of execution when things are no longer happening in a single PHP process.
