Responding to change - Understanding and adapting to organisational restructuring

A session at The 6th Annual Executive Officers’ Conference 2014

  • Tanya Jacobson

Departments from across both government and higher
education are going through a period of significant
organisational change, fueled by a variety of factors from
funding cuts to policy uncertainty. As roles and boundaries
get redefined, the Executive Officer’s diverse range of
experience, expertise and exposure can add enormous
value to an institution and leave them well skilled to make
the move into a management position. Tanya tracks her
own steps from Executive Officer to Business Manager,
heading up divisional support functions, and liaising with
the executive and divisional leadership team. Explore:
• Defining the Executive Officer role and learning to
delegate strategically
• Refining multi-departmental stakeholder engagement and
understanding enterprise goals
• Career progression strategy and identifying transferable
skills
