Taking the lead – Building the skills to influence senior decision makers

A session at The 6th Annual Executive Officers’ Conference 2014

  • Martin Drinkwater

The Executive Officer is a role imbued with great responsibility
and authority, which can be focused strategically to influence
a positive team culture. Often called upon to broker vital
relationships with all tiers of management across multiple
departments, it is crucial for Executive Officers to develop
the skills to influence up and down the chain, and foster a
keen understanding of the stakeholder needs, internal and
external, affecting workplace politics. Martin will explore the
complex personal and political dynamics the Executive Officer
must understand and negotiate. Topics will include:
• Strategies to build strong professional relationships
based on trust
• The importance of influence in facilitating change
• Navigating internal and external stakeholder politics
