1:15pm to 2:00pm
Using Microsoft Lync 2013 we had intermediate students work in groups with assigned high school mentors to complete weekly math problems through video chat. The groups used an established problem solving method (UPSC) to work through the problems; discussing strategies and collaborating effectively in order to reach solutions. The mentoring sessions allowed students to develop their problem solving skills as well as allowing the intermediate students to learn in a social context, which helped bridge the gap between how they learn at home and how they learn at school.
