Buddy Study - A Collaborative Inquiry

A session at Teaching and Learning in a Digital World 2014

Wednesday 20th August, 2014

1:15pm to 2:00pm (EST)

Two classrooms (grade 1 and a grade 3-4 combined class) worked together on a collaborative inquiry, based on the new Social Studies curriculum. Students used a Q-Chart to identify community questions, and from that the groups narrowed in on the question, "Is Meadowvale Village Public School a community?" Students worked in collaborative groups to collect evidence (pictures, video, audio recordings) and to research aspects of communities using iPads. After co-constructing criteria, they used the My Story app (also on the iPad) to create books of proof for their answers. They shared the finished digital books with their classmates, and other members of our school community.
