Using Twitter and Skype to Support Student Research

A session at Teaching and Learning in a Digital World 2014

Wednesday 20th August, 2014

2:15pm to 3:00pm (EST)

Our story takes place in the setting of the Social Studies Curriculum. Our hero is a grade 2/3 teacher who used her student created questions to drive their research on Ontario Communities. Students used the See Think Wonder Thinking routine to create questions. Our hero teacher stepped outside of her classroom and used Twitter for the first time to explore Ontario Communities with her class. Once in the 'Twitterverse' she met a fellow educator from Thunder Bay. From there, a Skype session followed. Students asked their questions and rich discussion followed. This inquiry explains how to use Twitter and Skype to take the curriculum to the world outside our classrooms.
