Integrated iPads Through the Daily Five

A session at Teaching and Learning in a Digital World 2014

Wednesday 20th August, 2014

2:15pm to 3:00pm (EST)

The goal of the 21st century literate learner is to develop proficiency skills with technology, solve problems collaboratively and cross-culturally, and manage, analyze and synthesize multiliteracies by multimodal means. The problem is, many educators are unsure as to how to effectively implement integrated technology into their current literacy program. Through a comprehensive, hands-on, and meaningful session, I will introduce the attendees to an integrated technology literacy program design based on the Daily Five. Participants will learn about the five literacy centres and how the iPad and integrated apps are used at each centre to enhance students’ reading skills, reading comprehension, critical and creative thinking skills and collaboration. I will briefly discuss the unbelievable findings collected from this year's pilot study to highlight the validity and benefit of this literacy program design. Participants will leave with a plethora of ready-to-implement ideas and resources and a newfound confidence in integrating technology into their literacy program.
