This year I used a variety of iPad apps to give my grade 4 core French students the opportunity to engage with the French language - from QR code scavenger hunts, to animating dialogues using toontastic, to making their own French podcasts using Educreations. Most of these things could be accomplished using any device, making it great for BYOD. The goal was to get them speaking in French and boy do they ever when they get those devices in their hands! Co-constructing criteria when the iPads were first introduced in French class meant that the students really treated them well and made sure they all had the chance to use them. We established routines for getting them out and putting them away.
