Getting Started with Fitness Data for App Developers in the App Store and Play Store

A session at Wearables TechCon

This tutorial-style class will cover everything you need to know to get started tracking fitness data for your users in the Android or Apple ecosystem. We will start by reviewing everything there is to know about Google Fit today. We will review data types, hardware, look at code samples in Android Studio and talk about popular apps using Google Fit.

Next, we will look at Apple Health Kit. We'll talk about data types, review any late breaking hardware information, and look at some code samples in Xcode. We will talk about what kinds of apps are possible using Apple Health Kit.

Finally, we will do a deep dive into some Android code in Android Studio; we will see how to build an app that captures custom data, highlighting where the Google tutorials have compile errors, and how to not get caught in those traps as you work on the next great app to delight users by capitalizing on fitness data.
