Ex-missionary, now educator
Katie Kruse was raised as a conservative Evangelical Christian. While attending a Christian university she became interested in overseas missions. She went on her first mission trip to China in 1999. That trip was followed by another longer trip after which she became a full-time China expat. A plethora of cross-cultural experiences had the cumulative effect of forcing her to question her faith which eventually led her to become an atheist in 2011. She is a professional teacher and currently works as a residential adviser for Chinese students studying at private high schools in the US. She also runs a meet-up group for atheists in the NW suburbs of Chicago.
