Show don’t tell—how to guide colleagues through transition

A session at agile content conf

Monday 19th January, 2015

11:35am to 12:00pm (GMT)

As you make the transition from linear to agile processes, you need to take colleagues with you. But if you tell them the “right” way to work, you’re unlikely to succeed. How can you practise the “show, don’t tell” mantra?

In this interview you’ll learn about Leisa’s transition from being a consultant with a deck of wireframes to a guide showing colleagues how to learn from users. She’ll share a case study about the role of content design in the agile team that’s building the GOV.UK Verify service. Learn how to:

  • make the transition from having control over content and “owning” the user experience to trusting the process and learning as you go
  • help your colleagues to focus on actions they can take right now, instead of plans and reports
  • guide colleagues through transition by helping them to understand user needs through constant exposure to real users
