This presentation is the 2015 installment of the annual State of the uPortal (and uMobile) update. In this session we will showcase new developments in the uPortal platform that have come about in the previous twelve months (since the last conference). This period has been one of significant activity and innovation in the uPortal platform.
Some of these exciting developments include:
- "Chromeless" portlets & hover chrome
- 6-column layouts
- Lightbox CONFIG & EDIT modes
- Portlet Manager enhancements
- Administrative UX improvements
- Transient layout nodes for guest users
- Tincan API support
Drew is a Software Architect and the Lead Engineer for uPortal Open Source Support at Unicon: a leading provider of IT services for Education, specializing in open source. He is a passionate advocate for open source, and a long-standing contributor to several Apereo (formerly Jasig) projects including uPortal, SSP, CAS, PersonDirectory, ResourceServer, and most Jasig portlet projects. Within Apereo, Drew currently serves on the uPortal Steering Committee and as the Lead Engineer for the Email Preview and Notifications portlets. Drew is an experienced workshop leader and a frequent presenter at conferences.
Andrew Petro is a software developer in and the newest member of the University of Wisconsin - Madison's uPortal infrastructure team. The team maintains and upgrades the uPortal framework, develops portlets, and empowers others at the University to successfully develop portlets and otherwise integrate with the portal. Andrew holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Yale University where he loved working on Yale's uPortal implementation a decade ago. Since then he has worked on uPortal, CAS, and identity management projects as a consultant at Apereo affiliate Unicon, Inc., before joining the University of Wisconsin staff in 2013. Andrew has served variously as a uPortal release engineer, a uPortal project steering committee member, and a CAS project steering committee member, and retains committer privileges on uPortal. Java Developer Analyst
Dave Derderian works as a Java Developer Analyst at Oakland University. He is the Lead Developer at Oakland University working on uPortal, portlet and mobile development. He has created custom portlets and assisted in incorporating the Progress To Degree and Courses portlet into their portal system. He is also the chairman of uMobile His main programming background is in Java, Android and Web development.
