11:00am to 11:50am
In Schmidt and Rosenberg's How Google Works http://www.howgoogleworks.net/ the authors emphasize Google's focus on attracting and nurturing individuals known as Smart-Creatives. These are individuals who combine technical knowledge, creativity and business expertise. In this session we will investigate how the classroom can become a place where Smart-Creatives are nurtured and developed.
This session will allow participants to become familiar with recent technologies including arduinos, raspberry pis, lego NXTs, 3D printing and FRC robotics kits. We will look how students can plan, design, implement and debrief their own projects giving them a sense of ownership and responsibility for their own learning.
Examples of student projects will be discussed http://www.techthings.ca/learn/E...
By combining new technologies with pedagogical strategies such as differentiated instruction, gradual release of responsibility and a careful focus on curriculum expectations the classroom can become an exciting, innovative and surprising place!
