Use coaching techniques to help people make their own decisions

A session at #dareconf USA

Tuesday 19th May, 2015

3:55pm to 4:20pm (EST)

Anyone can use coaching techniques: you don’t need special training. When you coach, you help people to make their own decisions instead of providing the “right” answer. You’ll experience the thrill of deeper connection with your colleagues and the satisfaction of contributing to their growth.

When I started coaching I discovered that my urge to come up with the “right” answer was getting in the way. I chose to stop playing the expert, which allowed me to grow into opportunities like increased responsibility and leadership roles. Learn how to:

  • use the GROW coaching technique to structure conversations and help people make their own decisions
  • ask questions that encourage people to consider new approaches
  • embrace the coaching mindset and let go of the urge to play expert
