Never mind the bollocks: here's the Linux containers

A session at Devoxx UK 2015

Thursday 18th June, 2015

10:50am to 11:40am (GMT)

"Live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse behind." The punk motto applies quite well to Linux containers powered micro services.

Side one "Holidays in the Sun" – Solaris containers moved to Linux with lxc and are now being made easy to use by Docker, creating a new platform category between IaaS & PaaS. "Liar" – Java's "Write once, run anywhere" mantra is taken through a new spin, where anywhere means any cloud. "No Feelings" – namespaces and cgroups provide isolation and control "God Save the Queen" – We're [Containers] the future, your future! "Problems" – Containers need to mature: orchestration, networking, storage, management,…

Side two "Seventeen" – Docker is maturing into orchestration with machine, swarm and compose. "Anarchy in the UK" – orchestration is where the action is, with Kubernetes, Mesos, Cloud Foundry, Fleet, Deis and Tutum "Bodies" – Moving stateful containers with Flocker, or "The return of the living zfs" "Pretty Vacant" – Weave for Docker networking "New York" – I'll end in the terminal, with a demo provisioning a CoreOS cluster on Azure, Deis on top of it, then deploying a Spring Boot app using MongoDB on that platform.
