Designers Can Open Source

A session at Future of Web Design San Francisco

Thursday 29th October, 2015

11:30am to 12:10pm (PST)

Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS) has drastically changed the way we develop and distribute software. Today it is a common and essential part of the development industry, but it hasn’t always been. In this session, Garth will discuss how F/OSS started, how it benefits the community and individual contributors, and how we can apply these same principles to the design industry. He will cover a few topics in relation to open source design, including: open source licenses, benefits of open sourcing design work, how to open source work, how to contribute design to open source projects and how to make friends with other designers. This talk is aimed at designers and some development practices will be discussed.
