Most content on the web is trapped in simple boxes. Creating custom shapes has long been a headache for web designers: a process of too much CSS black magic and needless HTML complexity. But it doesn't have to be this way.
New features like CSS Shapes and CSS Masking solve the problem of custom shapes the elegant way. Tried and tested SVG is also underused even though it is widely supported. These technologies are specifically built to handle shapes. Let's forget about old hacks. Let's talk about ways to create practical, reusable shapes and go beyond rectangles in web design.
