Q: How can you deliver loads more VALUE, quickly?
A: Invest a little more time figuring out what projects and features to NOT build.
That's what Steve Job's did when he returned to Apple in 1998: he killed-off dozens of active projects and products, freeing up capacity so Apple could focus on delivering the vital-few products that saved the company.
Less dramatically, that's what we've been doing at Royal London over the last half-dozen years. We don't have Steve's authority, or his reality distortion capabilities, so, instead, we've used a mixture of Agile, good-old-fashioned Project and Portfolio management, and (new kid on the block) Benefits Management. It's worked.
Who are we? We're the Head of Solutions Delivery, the Head of Change, the Benefits Management Lead, and the Agile Lead at Royal London, based here in Edinburgh.
