Mindful Children: Treating ADHD, Trauma and Stress

A session at Learning & the Brain 42: The Science of Character

  • Bessel A. van der Kolk, MD

Friday 13th November, 2015

8:30am to 12:30pm (EST)

This two-part workshop will explore the effects of stress in ADHD and trauma on the brain and interventions for these disorders. Developmental Pediatrician Mark Bertin will provide proven-effective program for helping children with ADHD stay cool and collected while remaining flexible, resilient and mindful. Renowned trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk will explain how traumatic stress literally rearranges the brain’s wiring—specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. He shows how these areas can be reactivated through innovative treatments including neurofeedback, mindfulness techniques, play, yoga, and other therapies.
