Brigham Young University recently updated its academic library website to support responsive design. One of the primary goals was to create as integrated an experience as possible. This required replacing the front-end of several third-party applications with a custom interface. The use of application programming interfaces (APIs) was vital to meeting this challenge. I will demonstrate some of the integration successes and failures experienced during the website redesign. I will also make the case for vendors to provide better APIs in the future.
