In libraries, ebooks exist as licensed products that we can provide to our members only under terms that impede access and at great expense. By acquiring local content and keeping it within local systems, libraries can collaborate with their communities to build new information products. In this talk I will present open source tools for ebook creation, discuss the use of the Drupal content management system for serving ebooks, and highlight resources for determining copyright status of content. As an example,I will present the Community Cookbook, a recipe database and collection of ebooks created from the digitization of local cookbooks.
