Data Remediation: A View from the Trenches

A session at LITA Forum

  • Heather Wilson

Saturday 14th November, 2015

10:30am to 11:15am (CST)

Finding a way to automate and clean up data is often considered the “holy grail” for electronic resources and metadata management. Although tremendous progress has been made toward this goal, achieving “perfect” data is still elusive. However, several tools are available to make this remediation process easier, from spreadsheet functions to tools such as OpenRefine and MARCEdit. Where these tools won’t work, more advanced options include Python scripts using libraries such as PyMARC, Google Apps Scripts, SUSHI scripting and API calls. This session will present some options, then provide hands-on instruction in working with those options quickly and easily.
