SharePoint 2013 Apps and I “MEAN” it

A session at SharePoint Fest - D.C. 2015

Friday 10th April, 2015

3:20pm to 4:30pm (EST)

The SharePoint 2013 App model allows us to combine existing business processes directly into our SharePoint portals, even in SharePoint Online, using a provider hosted SharePoint App. A popular framework for building feature rich web applications on any platform has been the MEAN stack, a combination of MongoDB, Express, AngularJS and Node.js. Let's see how we can combine MEAN with SharePoint 2013's CSOM and REST API's to build a full featured app that uses both SharePoint and our own backend business data. Time to get "MEAN".

This quick paced, advanced level, scenario based session will introduce you to all of the layers required to build a provider hosted SharePoint App. The app will join a SharePoint Intranet portal with a MEAN stack based backend data storage and order tracking based system. All sample code will be provided to session attendees to help you leverage MEAN in your SharePoint environment.

You will learn:
How to set up a MEAN stack environment
Create a simple provider hosted SharePoint 2013 SPA
Join the SPA with the backend MongoDB database using the MEAN stack
