When we started a project at Vodafone we had to deal with around 100,000 messages per second and peeks over 1 million. Each message has around 100 elements and even if we only used a dozen or so it meant tens of millions of objects being created per second. Not to mention of course the huge amounts of RAM being used and the endless GCs.
After many man-years work we created a binary codec for Java that works nicely in Spring. Naturally the bottleneck then moved from data acquisition to Spring expressions so we got the clever Spring guys to add on-the-fly SpEL compilation. John will walk through this high-performance use-case, lessons learnt and a few demos.
