REST web services have become ubiquitous means for application integration. However, implementing the hypermedia aspects of REST is still a challenge today. Spring Data REST builds on top of Spring Data repositories and makes it easy to quickly expose resources for them. To do so, it leverages hypermedia aspects and a set of RFCs and to-become-standards like HAL, the profile relation type, URI templates, ALPS and JSON Schema. It also provides extensions to easily extend the exported resource with additional functionality. The talk introduces the library and how it uses internet standards in the first place. It then goes on discussing typical use cases, extension points to eventually end up with a complete sample application.
