TranSMART is a great platform for data warehousing and basic analyses on top. However, not every analysis will be available within the platform. With the development of the REST API for tranSMART is has become possible to programmatically extract data from tranSMART, as long as you as a user give an application the permission to have access to your data.
Python and R are the two most widely used languages for data science. Within this training we will teach you how to leverage the REST API, and existing clients clients on top of this, to have your tranSMART data available in your tool of choice.
Using these two languages we also have the advantage of showing two interesting use cases:
(1) Using the R interface, which is an existing client for R we have developed on top of the REST API, and (2) talking directly to the REST API using your favourite programming language (in our example this is Python). The latter would also exemplify how to extract data with any other language or tool.
