The Good, the Watch, and the Ugly: Thinking about coding for watch platforms

A session at Mobility and Modern Web Conference

Thursday 15th September, 2016

1:10pm to 1:45pm (PST)

Watch platforms are exciting for their hidden potential given the power of sensors and connectivity. It is also challenging to develop and design a good watch application. This talk aims to discuss the development and design considerations when tackling these platforms. In particular, we’ll look at Watch OS, Android Wear, Pebble, and other fringe platforms. Programming for these devices requires thinking not only about the device itself, but also the phones they connect to. We’ll look at the high level architecture of how these devices function. We will also look at UI design considerations. Designing for a small form factor and power limitations require rethinking your UI and your UX. We will examine some of the early best practices being established.
