Microservices, Dropwizard, and Modern Apps - Workshop Part 2

A session at NFJS Greater Wisconsin Software Symposium

Friday 11th March, 2016

4:45pm to 6:15pm (CST)

Microservices offer the promise of a modular and scalable architecture. The Dropwizard framework was developed exclusively to help you develop an application with a microservice architecture. In this workshop, get hands on with the popular Dropwizard framework.

We’ll start by discussing the benefits of a microservice architecture, as well as exploring the consequences. We’ll explore several features of DropWizard, including configuration, representations, resources, health checks, and building executable JARs that contain all necessary dependencies. We will go through several hands on exercises using Dropwizard and wrap up by building a small modern web app that uses the service.

This is a hands on workshop. Bring a laptop.

Software required:
JDK 7 +
Scratch IDE (ie. TextWrangler, TextMate, etc.)
