Progression 1 - Mind Mapping for Content Reuse

A session at Spectrum 2016 Conference

Monday 18th April, 2016

10:15am to 11:15am (EST)

Writer’s block is something that affects every writer. Even when approved content already exists, writer’s block can hit content strategists faced with architecting variants of a document from the same source. How do you conquer the blank screen and reuse content to meet the needs of multiple personas or types of users? How do you tell many stories from the same text, quickly and easily?

Johanne Lavallée

Johanne Lavallée is a graduate of Durham College where she majored in electronic engineering technology, though technical writing was what she wanted to do after graduation. In the past 17 years, she has used all available technical writing tools, in English and French, to create marketing and technical documentation for everything from online help to parts. She now works as a solo writer in a 200-employee traffic display systems manufacturing company, where she writes operation, maintenance, and parts manuals, and also reviews CAD views and designs safety warning stickers. She spoke at LavaCon 2015 about content strategy, has given webinars for STC France and SmartDocs about reuse and content strategies in Word, and wrote about mind mapping in Intercom (July/August 2015).
