Technical Writing (TW) and Instructional Design (ID) are two professions with one basic common element – information design. Both professions aim to provide informative content to the audience. Technical Writers can benefit from using the principles of ID. The following are covered: • The role of technical writer and key deliverables • The role of instructional designer and key deliverables • Similarities of these roles (audience analysis, communicating with SMEs and delivering content using appropriate tools) • Differences between the two roles • How ID can be used in TW to develop better content
