I Take it Back: When a Child Recants Allegations of Sexual Abuse

This presentation will explore the process of disclosure in child sexual abuse cases and how recantation factors into this. Presenters will also discuss where recantation fits into this disclosure process and what the research shows us about recantation. Presenter will then discuss what to do when a recant occurs including investigating placing special focus on conducting a recant forensic interview as well as making decisions on how to proceed with a criminal case. A full case study of a child will be presented. This case will take attendees through the investigation, initial interview and subsequent interview regarding the recant up through the final criminal disposition of the case.
