Lanyrd; the social professional events directory, was founded in 2010 by Simon Willison and Natalie Downe. The startup is a product of Y Combinator’s Winter 2011 batch, and raised a further round of $1.4 million of seed funding in 2011. Investors include Index Ventures Seed and PROfounders Capital.
Lanyrd helps people to get more out of professional events, providing support to users throughout the conference lifecycle; by helping people find events, meet the right people whilst there and then providing an archive of slides, notes and videos once the event has finished.
Lanyrd is closely integrated with Twitter and LinkedIn, and recommends events that your social network contacts are attending. The site works like a wiki, leveraging the community it serves by encouraging users to enter event details and edit data.
Lanyrd also provides iPhone and mobile web apps, providing at-event support for attendees including offline storage of schedule information and event attendee directories.
Lanyrd helps people get more out of conferences and professional events, by discovering the right events to attend, meeting the right people while there and catching up on slides, notes and video afterwards.
