Today we’re pleased to announce our latest tool for event organisers and speakers: Lanyrd’s new speaker directory, providing access to over 70,000 speaker profiles across thousands of topic areas.
At Lanyrd, we’re building the definitive database of professional events, conferences, talks and speakers. We want to help organisers run better events, speakers get more exposure and attendees find the events that are right for them.
Our brand new speaker directory provides a powerful new way to explore the 70,000+ speaker profiles already on Lanyrd, and helps organisers connect with new talent to help make their events even better.
We’ve divided our directory into thousands of topics, powered by a new algorithm that helps identify the most prolific speakers for each one. You can search for topics from the directory index page, or try one of the following:
Speakers are shown with a summary of their interests and current commitments, as well as thumbnails of any slides or video listed for them on Lanyrd. You can further filter speakers by home country or trait, described below.
If you speak at events, it’s a good idea to have a permanent record of the talks you’ve given — to enhance the exposure you get from your appearance and to help convince organisers to book you for more talks in the future. A Lanyrd profile helps collect your previous talks and promote events you are involved with in the future.
We’ll automatically include you in the speaker directory for a number of topics based on events you have spoken at and talks you have given. You can tell which topics you are listed for on your edit profile page, and you can manually list topics you would like to speak about in order to add yourself to additional directories — so if you aren’t yet an experienced speaker but want to give talks about certain topics you can list them there. Your ranking in those directories is affected by the events and talks around that topic you have been involved with in the past.
If you’re looking for speakers for an event, our speaker directory can help. We’ll show you speaker details, events they have been involved in and slides and videos from their previous talks. By default our topic listings show the most prolific speakers, but please don’t be tempted to just feature the big names at your event — giving new speakers a break helps keep events from getting tired and ensures your audience doesn’t miss out on interesting new perspectives.
To help in this, we’ve added the ability to filter by traits. For example, you might want to find some new voices (speakers who gave their first presentation in the past six months), or maybe you’re running a conference in Kenya and want to see well-travelled speakers who are more likely to want to make the trip out.
We’ve given user profile pages a visual refresh, including a neat new set of flags showing all of the countries that you’ve spoken in. And to answer the obvious question: Lanyrd’s most well-travelled speaker is Robert Nyman, who’s spoken in an impressive 27 countries!
Each flag links through to a page showing that speaker’s events in that country — another new feature we’re rolling out today.
We’ve also added speaker bios to your profile. When you speak at a conference they’ll almost certainly ask for a bio to include in the program. Add your bio and high resolution photographs to your Lanyrd profile so you can send event organisers a link to your details.
Want to make the most of the new, improved speaker profiles? Here are a few steps you can take to enhance yours:
