Week notes: Roof tops, water coolers and Sass

We settled into our new office a little more this week, started work on some meatier long term projects and enjoyed some surprisingly sunny weather on our office's brand new roof deck.

Last Saturday saw Simon and I at the Silicon Milkroundabout careers fair, complete with our shiny new Lanyrd banner. It really was amazing seeing so many great local companies hiring. We exhibited in the first Silicon Milkroundabout last year and it has blossomed in to a huge and vibrant event.

Our new office space held an opening party for their brand new roof deck (which even has a Twitter account), and we've already had several productive meetings up there. I also bought a water cooler for our office, just in time for the end of the London heat wave.

Andrew, Simon, Sophie and Jake on the roof

Jake is working on an update to our m.lanyrd.com mobile web app, to match the redesign of our iPhone app and improve the way it stores event information for offline access. He's experimenting with Sass for the new implementation, and has also been pondering clever Sass tricks for building cross-browser mobile-first designs.

Simon took part in the Tech Commandments panel on the last day of Digital Shoreditch. All three of his commandments were about the importance of shipping - Ship Early, Ship Often and Make it Easy to Ship. Very wise words!

I have signed up Simon and I for the ZSL Stampede 10K race around London Zoo and Regents Park. Since we normally scamper enthusiastically around the zoo pretty fast this isn't far from a normal day out.

Next week you can catch up with Jake and Sophie at the Ampersand typography conference down in Brighton. Jake is giving a talk about the technical nitty gritty of implementing web fonts. Meanwhile, Simon and I are heading to Istanbul for our first real holiday in more time than we care to admit! We're finally putting all of those air-miles we accumulated from our Y Combinator adventure to good use.
