Time zones are tricky things. Here's how to ensure our schedules don't show up with the wrong times in your calendar software of choice.
Be very careful about iPhone time zone settings. The iPhone's default settings cause it to display all events using the time zone of the place where you first used the phone, even if you are travelling to another area.
Here's how to ensure the iPhone calendar application will display events with the correct time for the place where the event is.
iPhone calendar settings live in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars - then scroll to the bottom of that page and select "Time Zone Support".
There are two approaches here. We recommend turning "Time Zone Support" OFF, which will ensure that events in your calendar are displayed using the current time zone setting for the phone. This means that provided you remember to alter your time zone when you arrive at the event you'll see the correct times for sessions.
Alternatively, you can manually set the time zone of your calendar to the place you are visiting. Watch out though, this is a global setting which will affect all events in your calendar.
To display time zones correctly in iCal, you first need to turn on time zone support in the iCal preferences:
Doing so will add a time zone menu in the top right corner of the application. You can use the menu to configure and switch to the correct time zone.
